Underlying assumptions have been examined in scaled-particle theory for the case of a rigid-sphere solute in liquid water. As a result, it has been possible to improve upon Pierotti's corresponding analysis in a way that explicitly incorporates measured surface tensions and radial-distribution functions for pure water. It is pointed out along the way that potential energy nonadditivity should create an orientational bias for molecules in the liquid-vapor interface that is peculiar to water. This paper addresses the problem of shape preserving spline interpolation formulated as a differential multipoint boundary value problem (DMBVP for short). Its discretization by mesh method yields a five-diagonal linear system which can be ill-conditioned for unequally spaced data. Using the superposition principle we split this system in a set of tridiagonal linear systems with a diagonal dominance. The latter ones can be stably solved either by direct (Gaussian elimination) or iterative methods (SOR method and finite-difference schemes in fractional steps) and admit effective parallelization. Numerical examples illustrate the main features of this approach.  相似文献

In the present paper, C1-piecewise rational cubic spline function involving tension parameters is considered which produces a monotonie interpolant to a given monotonie data set. It is observed that under certain conditions the interpolant preserves the convexity property of the data set. The existence and uniqueness of a C2-rational cubic spline interpolant are established. The presence of surfactants may have profound effects on the transport of organic contaminants in multiphase systems. It is a common practice, however, to model the subsurface migration of liquids independently of the aqueous phase composition. As such, transport in these systems may not be adequately characterized. This study investigates the impact of pH on interfacial tension, wettability, and the drainage capillary pressure–saturation relationship in air–water–quartz and oxylene–water–quartz systems containing dodecylamine, an organic base. In these systems, three mechanisms, speciation, partitioning, and sorption, are important in determining the interfacial tension and contact angle, and consequently, important in determining the capillary pressure. By adjusting the pH above and below, the pKa of the base, the relative importance of these mechanisms was altered. Below dodecylamine's pKa of 10.6, the base was primarily in a cationic form resulting in minimal partitioning into the nonaqueous liquid and greater sorption at the quartz surface. Above the pKa, the base was primarily in a neutral form which did not sorb to the quartz, and, furthermore, partitioned into the organic liquid phase where its surface activity was minimized. The combination of these processes caused the capillary pressure to change in a manner consistent with porescale theory of capillarity. The utility in this approach lies in the possibility of predicting transport properties in multiphase systems while incorporating the direct effects of solution chemistry.  相似文献

The science of voice evaluation and assessment has profited from technological advancement and objective measurement of voice parameters has become an integral part of the voice examination, however, subjective voice evaluation remains a vital component of any voice examination. The Towne-Heuer Reading Passage was developed in 1970 to provide a reading sample that would facilitate subjective voice evaluation. The reliability of the passage was established using three judges listening to 15 normal Philadelphia speakers and 15 vocal abuse-misuse clients with verified vocal nodules. The frequency of hard glottal attack (HGA) was determined for the two groups and high interjudge and intrajudge correlation was found. A difference in the frequency of HGA was found between the two groups.  相似文献

The model under consideration is a semi-infinite two-dimensional two-component plasma (Coulomb gas), stable against bulk collapse for the dimensionless coupling constant <2, in contact with a dielectric wall of dielectric constant =0. The model is mapped onto an integrable sine-Gordon theory with a free Neumann boundary condition. Using recent results on a reflection relationship between the boundary Liouville and sine-Gordon theories, an explicit expression is derived for the surface tension at a rectilinear dielectric – Coulomb gas interface. This expression reproduces the Debye-Hückel 0 limit and the exact result at the bulk collapse border, the free-fermion point =2, where the surface tension keeps a finite value. The surface collapse, identified with the divergence of the surface tension, occurs at =3.  相似文献

This investigation presents an analysis of the critical behavior of mixtures of oligomers of propylene glycol, PG17, and ethylene glycol, EGn, withn=3, 4, 5, 6.4, 8.7, 12.1 and 22.1. The critical coordinates, c andT c were determined from the phase diagrams. The critical compositions compare very well with the Huggins-Flory predictions. The interaction parameter n is around one for EG3, EG4 and EG5 and it increases up to two for the higher oligomers. The break in the interaction parameter also corresponds to a minimum in the critical temperature. The phase diagrams and the interfacial tension were used to get the critical exponents and , respectively. The data were analysed with two approaches. First, from the temperature dependence of the length of the tie-lines and of the interfacial tension up to the upper critical solution temperature, UCST. Second, with the data at 30°C using the critical temperature of the systems as the variable. The first method led to =0.39±0.05 in good agreement with the result of the second method, =0.37±0.04. The exponents for the interfacial tension, , determined with the first method for PG17 with EG6.4, EG8.7 and EG12.1 are =1.66±0.11, 1.46±0.25 and 1.73±0.18, respectively. The second method led to =1.17±0.14. The critical exponents are compared to mean field and ising-3D predictions.  相似文献

Some aspects of the microscopic theory of interfaces in classical lattice systems are developed. The problem of the appearance of facets in the (Wulff) equilibrium crystal shape is discussed, together with its relation to the discontinuities of the derivatives of the surface tension (n) (with respect to the components of the surface normaln) and the role of the step free energy step(m) (associated with a step orthogonal tom on a rigid interface). Among the results are, in the case of the Ising model at low enough temperatures, the existence of step(m) in the thermodynamic limit, the expression of this quantity by means of a convergent cluster expansion, and the fact that 2step(m) is equal to the value of the jump of the derivative / (when varies) at the point =0 [withn=(m 1 sin ,m 2 sin , cos )]. Finally, using this fact, it is shown that the facet shape is determined by the function step(m).  相似文献
